Shame and Cultural ToleranceDownload: C:\Documents and Settings\Usuario\My Documents\Qualifying Paper II.doc What is it about some people that make them more tolerant of the cultural differences in other people? It would be interesting to understand why some people fear differences while others are intrigued. I suggest that shame, the master and universal emotion may be a significant mitigating factor. That tolerance is hindered by shame within the individual and within a cultural group. Educators would benefit in understanding the significance of relationship between shame and tolerance and in the making of good neighbors within the classroom, the community and the world.
